Tanahun Bus Accident: Victims' Bodies Sent to India

Bharatpur (Chitwan): The bodies of those who perished in a tragic bus accident in Tanahun district were sent to India today. The accident occurred on Friday at Ainapahra in Aanbu Khaireni Rural Municipality-4, where a passenger bus plunged 200 meters off the road into the Masryangdi River, claiming 27 lives.

Following the completion of postmortem examinations at Bharatpur Hospital in Chitwan, 25 of the deceased were flown to India on an Indian Air Force plane. The bodies of the bus driver and helper were sent to Gorakhpur, India, via land.

India's Minister of State for Youth and Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse, traveled to Bharatpur to oversee the transfer of the bodies. Chief District Officer of Chitwan, Indra Dev Yadav, confirmed the arrangements, noting that the bodies were transported to Bharatpur on Friday night from the accident site.

The bus, registered as UP 53 FT 7623, was en route from Pokhara to Kathmandu when it veered off the road. Among the 27 victims, there were 15 women, 11 men, and a four-year-old girl. Sixteen others, including 10 women, were injured and are currently receiving treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Kathmandu. According to police reports, there were 43 passengers onboard the bus at the time of the accident.
